Measuring coastal turbidity with ICESat-2:

Investigation and calibration of a potentially revolutionary dataset (NASA)



ICESat-2 is a new NASA satellite carrying the ATLAS instrument which allows for remote detection of ice surface elevations. The instrument also provides information on canopy heights, shallow-water bathymetry, and potentially many other parameters. Emily and Matthew are collaborating with Dr. Catherine Walker (WHOI) to explore the signals of suspended sediment inventories in shallow coastal waters, which show promise as useful datasets that can be quantified in order to learn more about coastal sediment concentrations and fluxes.
